Change Over Switches
MPE produces a full range of Manual and Automatic Change Over switches from 250Amps to 2500Amps.
The Automatic Change Over Switches are manufactured using either moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) with front mounted motor mechanism or air circuit breakers (ACBs) which both provide robust construction and have the advantage of circuit breaker protection.
Change Over Switches are manufactured either as stand alone free standing units or integrated in distribution switchboards having essential and non-essential busbars.
The Automatic Change Overs Switches can be provided with either Schneider Electric UA or Terasaki Temtransfer source-change over controllers.
Manual change over units are fabricated using vertical load disconnectors. For the ratings 250A up to 1000A, a wall mounted enclosure is utilised. For higher ratings, a free standing cabinet is provided in view of the large number of cables required during installation.
Our proposal for MCB panels provides distinctive solutions for domestic and for industrial applications. Both designs can accommodate a mix of MCB brands and any other DIN mount equipment which may be required. This makes our solutions future proof.
The domestic solution is available in single rail and double rails, flash mounted metal enclosures. Characterised by a robust design and ease of installation.
The MCB panels for industrial applications are available in modular form, each building block provides 42 ways single pole equivalent having its own busbar of 200A.
Modular Main Distribution Switchgear
Available in all the forms of segregation, the configuration of the switchboards is individually designed to suit customers' needs in terms of the number of incoming supplies, bus- sections, standby generators and outgoing units while taking also into ac- count cable entries, plant room size etc. All types of functional units including ACBs, MCCBs, fuse switches, MCBs in fixed, draw-out or plug-in formats can be incorporated. For very large configurations, the switchboards are shipped in sections for final assembly on site
Specific compartments are dedicated for instrumentation and metering while any type of circuit protection or communication can be supplied.
MPE Main Switchboards have been installed over the years in a variety of installations including hospitals, hotels, banks, industrial sites and housing complexes.
The following are examples of two applications.
Outdoor Feeder Cabinets
Outdoor Feeder Pillars are used by most utilities to reach closer to points of demand in order to save on cable and other installation costs. MPE can offer feeder pillars of sheet steel construction and of glass reinforced polyester (GRP). The latter are the preferred choice for coastal installations.
Distribution Feeder Pillars can be equipped with either moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) or vertical fuse disconnectors (DIN fuses or BS88 type) and a variety of accessories like service socket outlets, internal lighting, instrumentation etc. Optional pedestals of various heights are also available. The construction of the pillar employs heavy duty internal hinges and temper proof fasteners which makes it vandal proof and weatherproof for a long a reliable operation.
Prefabricated Package Substation, also called compact substations, are non-walk-in substations providing a rapid 11,000/400V distribution solution. The MPE range of Package Substations has been specifically designed to operate reliably in the environmental conditions of North Africa and the Middle East. The basic models 11kV/400V Package Substations have ratings of 500kVA and 1000kVA.
The Package Substation housing is made from a composition of galvanised sheet steel of 1.5/2mm thickness and a structural base of 4mm mild steel, hot dip galvanised. The housing is provided with a pitched, double skin, metal roof. Roof ventilation is provided by fresh air intake from the outside of the housing and the exit of warm air from the top ridge. A GRP roof option is also available. The roof is removable in one piece to facilitate the replacement of equipment inside. The entire substation can be positioned on site either by a crane or a fork lifter.
The Package Substation is divided into three totally separated compartments: the High Voltage (HV), Transformer and Low Voltage (LV) compartments. The Transformer compartment is provided with side doors fitted with ventilation and sand traps while the HV and LV compartments are fitted with double leaf doors of reinforced steel.
The HV compartment can be equipped with Ring Main Units of the major brands like Schneider Electric or Lucy Electric. A top chimney is currently being provided over the RMU circuit breaker chamber to safely direct the pressurised hot gasses away from the operator in line with internal arc protection.
The LV compartment houses the LV distribution board connected to the LV bushings of the transformer by cables, rigid or flexible busbars. The LV panel is designed to the specific requirements of the client with circuit breakers or fuse disconnectors, instrumentation and energy metering.
Pole Mounted Distribution Enclosures
This rather simple product has been designed following a request by one of our clients to provide a protection element to pole mounted transformers in remote rural distribution. Such installations are maintained very rarely so special attention had to be given to design an enclosure with high IP rating and robust construction. As a result, internal hinges and heavy duty locking devices have been selected while all external fasteners are of stainless steel.
A screened copper busbar is provided to facilitate the termination of cables to minimise the need of excessive bending of the cables. A pole mounting bracket, suitable for a range of pole diameters, is also available as an optional extra.
From the manufacturing point of view, the steel enclosure has been designed with the minimal number of parts which allow fabrication of large quantities in a very short time which was another requirement of the client.
Street Lighting Control Gear
Our standard Street Lighting Panel is rated 100A suitable for outdoor, pole or wall mounted installation, with up to six, 40A MCBs or RCCBs outgoing ways. A special coil is used with the main contactor so as to withstand substantial voltage drops and a direct connection energy meter is installed for Municipality billing purposes. Contactor switching can be done manually or automatically. The latter is controlled by 24Hr timer, photocell or ripple control receiver.
For highway installations, a floor mounting mini pillar is available.
Different configurations with 200A or 250A main circuit boards are also available.
Sub Distribution Switchboards
These units have been designed for sub-distribution purposes in large installations. Typical busbar ratings are 250A, 400A and 630A having outgoing MCCBs of frame sizes from 100A up to 250A. The lowest setting for the 100A frame is 15A while that for the 250A is 125A. These units are designed to occupy the minimum space possible in the plant room and can either be installed walled mounted or floor standing for the higher ratings.
Two systems of busbars are available. The first is the EasyPact™ Busbar designed by Schneider Electric to be used in conjunction with the EasyPact™ range of MCCBs. The basic system is available in a variety of ways: starting from 4 up to 12ways EasyPact™ 100A (max) outgoing MCCBs. On 400A and 630A systems additional 2 or 4 EasyPact250 outgoing MCCBs can be incorporated. This busbar system is fully certified system.
The other busbar is a custom made system to allow more flexibility of outgoing MCCBs both in terms of ratings and the number of poles, for example, the use of 2P outgoing MCCBs. Interlocked incomers for mains supply and stand-by generator have also been adopted.
Instrumentation compartment, which can also serve as an MCB compartment, is available in this design.
Utility Type Energy Meter Enclosures
This product has been designed in collaboration with supply utilities engineers to enhance the security of the energy meters installed at customers. The enclosure has two compartments fully segregated from each other: the top compartment, where the energy meter is fitted and the bottom compartment where the customer’s main switch is installed. The top compartment is secured by a universal key and padlocking facility while the bottom compartment is fitted with unique keys.
The top compartment can house both single phase and three phase meters on a universal mounting plate to match most brands of energy meters.
The enclosure is fabricated from galvanized sheet steel and stainless steel fasteners which gives it a very robust construction. Both doors are fitted with gasket which allow the installation of the enclosure both indoors and outdoors.
Utility Type Final Distribution Enclosures
This product has been specifically designed for a supply utility in North Africa for their final distribution to consumers. The system consists of a ring circuit of 300A with twin tee-offs to clients rated 80A.
This product is supplied either as a GRP enclosure or as a steel enclosure. There are two options for the steel enclosure: IP66 or IP54. It consists of a 300A busbar ready for direct connection to 95 sq mm cable and two outgoing units of 80A, 3 pole. Both enclosures are supplied with pre-cut cable entries, ready for installation. The outgoing units are either MCCBs or Fuse Disconnectors.
